Love in Motion
Monday, November 7, 2022 by Cindy Sproles

I’d never thought about love this way. UNTIL, a few months back, I was involved in a Bible study that made a point about how we misuse the word love.

We’re continually saying,  I love chocolate. I’d love to go. I love that...I love… and it really has nothing to do with love. We misuse a very intimate and personal emotion and reduce it to the likes of chocolate. This only added to my personal crisis of belief.

So, before we go further, let’s define crisis of belief – the moment you say YES to God’s call, a crisis of belief follows. It’s not a disbelief in God, rather it’s those times we begin to question ourselves. Second- guess our abilities. Look for reasons that substantiate our lack of self-confidence. We, in a crisis of belief question, if God will truly do what He says He will do. Even though we know the answer, the doubt sorta slinks into our hearts.

My crisis of belief began a couple of years back when the Prince contracted cancer. I began this journey to understand this time in our lives. I questioned my ability to trust God like I knew I should – when, in fact, I did trust God. So, I asked God to show me my weaknesses and help me to become less dependent on myself and more dependent on You. That first lesson was a humdinger too. Tim and cancer. Through that time, God walked us through cancer, all the while knowing His plan was in place, and waiting for us to say, I believe You. It happened – the I believe You part, as we stood in church the Sunday before we left for Vanderbilt for Tim’s life-changing surgery –  the congregation sang Waymaker for the first time. We realized as we stood there listening to the words of the song, that we were in the midst of the Waymaker. The miracle worker. And so, Tim and I clasped hands and lifted a unified motion of love. Our hands went up above our heads and these two, reserved introverts, worshiped God, the Waymaker. We said, yes, we believe.

Two years out, and the Prince is cancer-free – Waymaker, miracle worker!

All this to say, as my life rolls forward, I am realizing that the word love means “in motion.” We can say we love. Speak love, even think love but until we put it in motion, love is nothing. Once it takes on motion, things change. Emotion happens, and kindness finds us. Our senses heighten to a type of love that is...well...more Christ-like.

One of the things I’ve said yes to God in obedience is small prayers. I went through a difficult time in my life and though I trusted God to get me through, I felt alone. I never wanted anyone else to feel that sense of loneliness. EVER. So, I have daily committed to listen to God’s call on my heart and send simple prayers to those He directs me. I did that today and was surprised by a note I got back from someone to whom I’d sent a prayer. God laid her on my heart. I love this child of God more than you can imagine, so when she responded, I could only thank God for the opportunity to open a door. Love was in motion. It wasn’t a thought or a notion. It became an action.

I’m trying to learn to say, I like chocolate over I love it. It’s a better use of the word. :) I want to become sensitive to the motion of love. I want folks to feel that from me, not just hear a rattle of words.

So, in this walk I am taking with the Master, I’m learning to reach out to Him. Dig deeper to experience His love in ways I have never experienced him before. Have I mastered it? Unfortunately, no. But God is pulling me along. He sees my heart and He is showing me continually how love is in motion.

I will never forget 2020. Not because of Covid, but because God saved Tim from cancer. Love in motion. Friends stood by our side at the hospital – they’d driven hours and hours to stand with us – Waymaker, miracle worker. When we came home, folks flooded us with love, help, food – Love in motion...promise keeper, light in the darkness.

That is who YOU are. WAYMAKER!

I hope you walk this crisis of belief with me. I pray you find love in motion, and that it moves you deeper than you can ever imagine falling into His arms.

He is my Waymaker is so many small ways and LARGE ways. We first heard it live from Voices of Lee. MY prince immediately ordered the music. It struck us both as hard as Laura Story's "Blessings". The way those voices sing to the Waymaker is "love in motion". Thanking God love is an action verb.

So need Jesus to show Himself as my Waymaker today. I've lost my way.
